Teeter Hang Ups Comprehensive Test Conducted by GolfTest USA

Positive Results Reported by Golfers after using the Teeter Hang Ups Inversion Table.

GolfTest USA was retained by Teeter to develop the testing protocol and methodology and then conduct a test by having a select group of golfers use the Teeter Hang Ups for a 30 day program using a predetermined exercise schedule. GolfTest USA conducted in-depth pre and post evaluations of all the testers’ swings and then compared the results to determine if the golfers improved. Each tester also completed a GolfTest USA-administered posttest questionnaire rating several criteria and providing written responses to obtain their anecdotal feedback about their impressions of the test. In addition, Teeter Hang Ups asked the testers complete pre and posttest surveys evaluating their physiological status, including pain and activity levels.

Test Methodology: GolfTest USA indentified 16 golfers who indicated they experienced occasional to chronic pain in the neck, shoulder and back areas. They volunteered and agreed to complete the Teeter Hang Ups “30 Days to a Better Back” Guide to Inverted Stretching and Exercise Program.

Test Protocol: GolfTest USA had each tester come to the Canoa Ranch Driving range where they hit balls with their driver, 5 Wood, Hybrid club, 7 iron and pitching wedge. All the shots were recorded using the FlightScope Prime Launch Monitor. After the 30 day program was complete, the testers came back to the range to hit balls with the same clubs and again record the results. Each tester then recorded their scores for the next 5 rounds of golf to determine if they had lowered their average scores and by how much. They completed the GolfTest USA questionnaire one week after completing the program.

Objective Results: Comparing the Pre and Post Swing Test

Total Average Distance: The average of all the shots made by all the testers was 130.6 yards pre test and 143.7 yards post test. That was a 10% improvement, which is significant. All 13 testers improved in this criterion.

Total Average Dispersion: The average dispersion of all the testers pre test was 5.0 yards. The post test average dispersion was 4.3 yards. That may not seem like much but it is actually a substantial 16% improvement. 10 of the 13 testers improved their accuracy.

Total Average Smash Factor: The average smash factor was 132.1 pre test and 133.4 post test. Because the highest smash factor is benchmarked at 150, this is a significant improvement. 11 of the 13 testers had improved smash factors.

Average Driver Swing Speed: Pre test was 81.9 MPH and Post test was 83.3 MPH, a 2% increase. This shows that the testers were able to swing more freely, and when factoring in the increased smash factor, indicates that the testers improved their acceleration through the hitting zone. 9 of the 13 testers improved their driver swing speeds.

Average Club Swing Speed: The average pre test for all clubs was 72.0 MPH and post test was 74.8 MPH, a 3.9% improvement. This again indicates that the testers were able to make substantial improvements in their club swing speed for even the more lofted clubs. 10 of the 13 testers had better swing speeds.

Average Ball Speed: The average pre test ball speed was 93.8 MPH compared to 98.0 MPH post test, an improvement of 4.5%. This result again confirms that the testers were able to maintain or even increase their swing speed through the critical hitting zone. 11 of the 13 testers improved their ball speed.

Swing Test Analysis

GolfTest USA has carefully evaluated all of the data obtained from the Swing Test. By using the FlightScope Prime Launch Monitor, we are able to obtain accurate results across a broad range of criteria and thus are able to determine with a very small margin of error if one set of results are better or worse than another set of results. All the data clearly shows that the results from the post test were much better than the pre test. We have been able to conclude that all factors being equal to a margin of error of less than +/- 5%, the only variable was each tester’s use of the Teeter Hang Ups for a period of 30 days. Statistically we have determined that this improvement was due directly to the use of the Teeter Hang Ups during the test. Even the few testers who did not improve felt that they were making better contact and hitting better shots.

Verbal feedback we got from the testers indicated that they felt getting the chance to participate was one of the best things they had tried for exercising and to help them play better golf and were very pleased that they benefited to such a high degree.

Several of the testers told us that they had already recommended using the Teeter Hang Ups to their golf buddies and families. The 8.3 rating shows how strongly they feel that the Teeter Hang Ups will help others.

3.     My golf game improved as the result of using the Teeter Hang Ups: 7.4

The 7.4 rating confirms that the testers felt strongly that the Teeter Hang Ups really helped them improve their golf game. In many other tests GolfTest USA has conducted in the past, a rating of 5 would be considered good because one single product usually does not help a golfer improve their game to the degree that the Teeter Hang Ups did.

10. In your own words, tell me what you think of the entire test based on how you think it was conducted and what benefits you feel you gained from participating in it:

·       I feel the entire process was conducted in a professional manner. With increased flexibility and more frequent play I am looking forward to being more competitive. I don’t have to ice my back after playing.  It is really a great unit. I use it twice a day.

·       I love trying new things and sometimes they work. It really helped my golf game and it definitely made it less painful before and after so I can play more.

·       I thought the test was very complete. It was good hitting 5 shots with 5 different clubs. I like also that the test was conducted over a month’s period of time. The first few days I would have blood rush to my head and I need a longer test period to get use to the Teeter Hang Up. So I thought the length of the test was very good. I also liked the way the test was conducted. I never heard of smash factor before the test and I think my results might help me develop a more complete golf swing. I benefitted by lowing my golf scores, improving my posture, and making my core stronger. My back begins to hurt if I don’t use it. The testing procedure is also an interesting topic of conversation among my fellow golfers. It was fun doing the test and using the machine.

·       Inversion is an interesting challenge and, after taking time to be relaxed while inverted, can be quite fun.  Having fun while exercising is exercise you will most likely continue to do.

·       I did not like the area the swing test was done, otherwise the test was fine.  The instructions in the manual were easy to follow.  I seem to have gained more distance in my ball striking, I am usually able to reach the par threes now.

·       Test was excellent. I feel my concentration has improved.

·       It was very professional & well organized. I experienced decreased back pain and improved swing rotation.

·       I am interested in how the before and after tests compare. I think the tests could be misleading in that you have good and bad days at golf and I think the same applies to the days we tested.  Possibly we should have two days separated by up to a week for before and after tests. Thanks for including me and I know I will have benefits in the future using the Teeter.

·       The initial test gave me some insight as to my swing limits.  Using the Teeter for just a few days I could feel my swing getting smoother.  Just finishing my swing has kept me in the fairway while prior to using the Teeter I was always leaving the ball out the right.  Any golfer who has a problem finishing their swing because of back stiffness can benefit from the Teeter.  Note… staying in the fairway has dropped my recorded handicap from 16 to 13 is just over a month.

·       I believe the entire test helped me focus more on my golf and how to take steps to improve my game.  I realize now how important stretching is to the game of golf.

·       Hitting balls on the range is like test taking for me….I just don’t do it well, so therefore I don’t like that part of the test.  By participating in the test and using the teeter my back feels more flexible and it’s easier to turn when making a golf swing. My golf scores have gone down since using the Teeter.

·       I liked the idea of gathering stats before and after using the Teeter Hang Ups. I feel as though I have gained some distance with my clubs.

·       Much more freedom of movement without any pain. I have gained extra distance on my golf shots

Post Test Golf Round Test Phase

After the 30 day program was complete, we asked each tester to play 5 rounds of golf and keep careful track of their scores. We then had them answer the following two questions.

***Do you feel you lowered your average strokes per round?    Yes or No

***If yes, how many strokes do you feel you have improved on average per round?

All 13 testers indicated that they lowered their average strokes per round, and after compiling the responses, testers actually averaged 3 fewer strokes per round.

Final Test Analysis

This test has been one of the most comprehensive tests that GolfTest USA has conducted in our 15 year history. We were able to gather objective data and subjective ratings from the testers and also important anecdotal feedback from the participants. One of the areas of concerns we had was that testers would experience different levels of mobility and flexibility from using the Teeter Hang Ups and that could impact detrimentally several different aspects of their golf swing. A golfer’s swing is dependant to a great degree on timing, rhythm and tempo. There was only one tester who acknowledged that he had to work on his timing and tempo now that he had a wider range of turn in his swing.

Out of the 16 golfers who started the test, 13 completed the test according to the instructions. One tester found they became dizzy while using the Teeter Hang Ups, one tester felt nauseous while on it and one tester had to stop because of a scheduling conflict. We initially thought that about half of the testers would be able to complete the test from start to finish. We also thought that there would be some testers who difficulty following the exercise regimen as it was outlined in the 30 day program. Instead, all who completed the program was able to do so with virtually no supervision or assistance.

All of the testers indicated that the Teeter Hang Ups helped them reduce the level of pain in the neck, shoulder and back areas. They all reported that they had increased mobility and flexibility from using the Teeter Hang Ups on a regular basis and that it helped them play better golf. They felt strongly that they will continue to use it and that it will continue to help them play golf with less pain and also play better and more consistent golf.

The test results showed clearly and conclusively that the Teeter Hang Ups is a product that will help most golfers play better golf with less pain.
