PowerStik
Training Aid Test and Review / March 2002
A few
months ago GolfTest USA received several requests from golfers
asking us to perform a test and review on the PowerStik
Training Aid. The PowerStik is a training aid that is designed
to stretch and strengthen golf muscles and improve a golfers
grip, balance, swing tempo, and add flexibility and strength
to a golfers swing without going to the golf course or the
driving range. We contacted PowerStik and they were kind
enough to provide us with some of their product so we could
conduct the test. Some of the PowerStiks had regular golf
grips and some had the special training grip.
We had
10 golfers use the PowerStik for two months according to
the instructions and then we had them rate several criteria
on a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being best). Following is
the summary of the results.
- Ease
of use: Averaged a very high 9.3
- Helped
improve distance: averaged a 6.8
-
Helped improve flexibility: scored an 7.5
- Increased
swing speed: averaged a solid 7.8
-
Will continue to use: scored a very impressive
9.8
-
Overall Rating: was an excellent 8.6
Following
are some comments made by the golfers who used the PowerStik
Training Aid:
- "Helped
lower my handicap by 2 strokes from a 6 to a 4. After
using the PowerStik it seems that I am able to control
the club head longer thru the hitting area. I am also
able to take the club back farther and also finish higher
while keeping it on plane."
- "I
will continue to use it everyday-easiest golf exercise-improve
my position at impact."
- "My
grip was in terrible shape-very weak-but the training
grip on the PowerStik helped me gain the confidence to
overcome that."
- "I
have used the PowerStik for pre-game warm-up and found
it is very helpful in loosening up the large muscles and
developing a one piece swing takeaway."
- "This
is a good no-frills product. It features a full size shaft
unlike others I have used. The weighting really allows
a golfer to increase flexibility and develop strength.
Only negative is that the particular grip on my model
really "chewed" up my hands. I think a training grip or
a smooth "wrap" style grip would be ideal due to the weight
of the club."
- "The
PowerStik is great to help increase distance, flexibility
and swing speed"
- "I
think the maker of the PowerStik should consider making
the head weight a series (two or three) of doughnuts that
could be screwed on to the shaft to provide a variety
of swing weights for weaker or stronger players."
