The YAR GXI-WB Wide Body Putter! Magic? Science? Or Both?

GolfTest USA has had the opportunity to test different aspects of the YAR GXI-WB Wide Body putter in the past few years. Each time we have been intrigued by its design and performance in light of the fact that it is not like any other putter we have ever tested. Many of the testers even have commented "this doesn't look like a putter, what is it"? Well, it is a putter and in each test it has achieved high ratings across all the criteria we test for which are important in determining a putter's performance. We thought it would be worth offering an insight into what we were able to find out about its design and also its inventor and designer. The YAR GXI-WB Wide Body putter was the brain child of Dr. V, her background is in the field of Aeronautical Physics. She is not a golfer per se but as she explains to us, a few years back she was watching Gerri Jordan, a friend with arthritis, putt. Apparently, a light went on in her head and she got the idea that maybe she could use some of her extensive education and knowledge of Materials, Science, Physics and Aeronautical Engineering to invent a putter that was superior to previous designs. We know a thousand other 'mad' scientists have had the same idea and stayed up countless nights in their garage. Each one eventually having their dreams dashed of designing the holy grail of golf, a putter that consistently helps the average golfer make more putts.
As we were to later find out, Dr. V had a distinct advantage over many other putter designers we had listened to. She knew what she was talking about and had the evidence to back it up. Dr. V explained the physics of what happens when a solid object hits a round sphere. Many of the math formulas she rambled off to us did go over our heads but at a less cerebral level we were able to glean a basic understanding of her design and why it would and did work.
The following paragraph contains a compilation of notes taken while listening to Dr. V explain the process she went through in bringing her ideas into the physical world. She goes on to state "I initially set out to design a putter (Energy Mass) with the intrinsic capabilities of possessing the Lowest MOI (AKA Lack of Twisting) possible, firmly ensconced in Aeronautical Physics. When it comes to engineering airframe platforms, stability is measured in the environ of nanometers, (AKA Zeros). Any Instability at Mach Speeds would cause havoc on flight control systems, detrimental air turbulence, extreme fatigue and possibly death to a Pilot, hence any MOI is categorized by - or Negative (AKA Not Acceptable), totally the antithesis of the golf industry. Many club manufacturers boost of having the greatest MOI, YAR claims to have Near Zero MOI, which is truly where their GX1 Putters are like no others. The physical energy expended to confront Negative MOI (Twisting) by a golfer while stroking a putter is essentially wasted. With a YAR Putter it feels light and actually gives you a pure pendulum swing throughout your stroke, hence no wasted energy to stabilize their putter, meaning the energy you have acquired in the mass of the GX1 putter while simply stroking it is essentially transferred via linear energy to the awaiting golf ball. Your stroke can be slowed down considerably providing you with greater ability, accuracy, and confidence in hitting your target." Her words, not mine.
She also had in the back of her mind to design a putter that would be suitable to be used in "adaptive golf". Adaptive golf is a term that is used to identify golf equipment that assists people who have physical limitations play golf. The YAR putter is center shafted so it will fit inside the cup, while sitting in a wheelchair, and when it is stroked back and forth it has innate properties that cause it to stay on plane. It resists the tendency to wobble or wiggle during the stroke. Because of this quality the YAR putter can easily be stroked using only one hand. Good luck trying that with a face balanced putter! The design also allows a golfer to hit the ball anywhere on the face without being penalized by having the ball veer left or right just a degree or two which can result in a missed putt from even just a few feet away.
Not satisfied with creating a putter that is extremely stable through the hitting zone, Dr. V thought it would also be "cool" to give the YAR GXI-WB Wide Body putter the ability to remove the ball from the hole or pick it off the putting surface without bending over. That accomplished, she designed a feature which while picking up the ball off the green also marks the ball's position, again without bending over. Score another one for adaptive golf. Once the ball is replaced and ready to be stroked, a small magnet at the rear of the putter picks up the ball marker. Sorry, but the YAR putter does not keep your beer cold or microwave popcorn.
GolfTest USA does not endorse any products on which we conduct testing; however we thought that the YAR putter design deserved to be recognized for the unique features it incorporates. Many putters claim they (all, if you believe the hype) will help golfers putt better and make more putts. We have found that the YAR putter has shown through both public domain testing (which we post the results on our website for all the golfing public to view) and proprietary tests that it is a putter that should be considered by all golfers looking to improve their putting. GolfTest USA does not receive any compensation from the YAR Putter Company or advertising revenue from any company in the golf industry. Our only goal in providing information of this type is to assist golfers in making informed decisions about which golf equipment they should consider using to improve their game. For more information on current putter testing please,

Disclaimer
regarding Google Ads on the GolfTest USA website.
At the beginning of 2008 GolfTest USA begin placing
Google Ads on our website. We have done this for two
reasons. First we feel that some visitors to our site
may be interested in finding out about new golf products
and services that are available and they may not be
aware of them. We want to make it clear that we do not
endorse or promote any of the products and services
contained in the ads. Second, the small (and we do mean
“small”) amount of revenue generated from
these ads goes to support the Integra*T Youth Golf Foundation.(501c
Nonprofit Organization) Over the past seven years we
have provided over 600 sets of clubs to junior golfers
who can’t afford golf equipment. The proceeds
from our “Pro Shop” link with The Golf Warehouse
and the Google Ads help to offset the substantial costs
we incur in shipping the clubs to various junior golf
programs around the country. We have also recently decided
to also provide golf equipment to Sgtgolf to be used
by disabled vets who need rehabilitation and have an
interest in golf. For more info on this organization
visit their website, www.integrat.org.
The Integra*T Youth Golf Foundation welcomes any assistance
or contributions.
New
Testing Facility at Canoa Ranch Golf Club in Green Valley,
Arizona
As of January 1, 2008 GolfTest USA had the opportunity
to move our test facility to the beautiful Canoa Ranch
Golf Club in Green Valley. This move will allow us much
more flexibility in our testing schedule. In past years
we could only test one or two club categories at a time.
We have received many comments (complaints if you prefer)
from club companies and golfers alike that we consider
reevaluating our testing schedule. By testing one club
category at a time we found that many of the test results
were old “news” by the time they were posted
and no longer of use to golfers trying to figure out
what new clubs would be best for them. We are now able
to run testing regimens on all club categories concurrently.
Club companies can now send us their clubs for testing
when they are ready (instead of when GolfTest USA is
ready) to introduce their new clubs so golfers can see
the results of our independent golfer testing. In the
past club models were on the shelves for 2 or 3 years
but now that cycle has changed to ever year. We feel
our new testing schedule will help us stay ahead of
the curve and keep our test results relevant to the
more than 2 million golfers worldwide who rely on our
test results to help them make their decisions on which
clubs would be right for them.
The Canoa Ranch practice area has a large expansive
putting green, varied short game scenarios and a wide
deep driving range. By being located in the Green Valley
area we can draw from a pool of over 20,000 golfers
from all age groups and demographics. In the winter
months golfers from all over the country and world vacation
here to play the many beautiful, challenging and reasonably
priced (even in winter) golf courses located within
20 miles for Green Valley. Just a few miles down the
road is the famous Tubac Country Club where Tin Cup,
one of the most popular golf films of all time was filmed.
Twenty miles to the north is Tucson, which has several
of the top rated courses in the US.
More info on Canoa Ranch Golf Club!!!
The Canoa Ranch Golf Club (www.canoaranchgolfcourse.com)
is one of the most scenic courses in the country. If
you are fortunate enough to be able to play here be
sure to bring your camera as each hole offers awesome
views of the mountains and the desert. It is surrounded
by three different mountain ranges and is cut in a series
of arroyos that cause each hole to have its own unique
look and feel. Many of the holes have daunting elevation
changes. It is a par 70 that has 6 par threes. Only
the brave and most skilled players should consider playing
from the tips as the par 3’s are some of the most
difficult found anywhere. Canoa Ranch brings new meaning
to the term “target” golf. Any golfer who
walks away with a score of 90 or less can indeed be
proud of good day of golf. For the less challenged playing
the course from the forward tees will decrease one’s
frustration to a reasonable level.
Canoa Ranch has a sister course just a few miles away
called Torres Blancas Golf Club. It is more subdued
and forgiving than Canoa Ranch but still offers an enjoyable
and challenging day of golf for all skill levels.
Unlike
some other testing organizations we do not accept any
advertising revenue from any of our clients. Thus we
are able to remain completely independent and unbiased.

evaluate many different golf products. We have created
the GolfTest USA Seal Of Excellence and will be awarding
it to select golf products that have undergone our testing
regimen. To be awarded the GolfTest USA Seal of Excellence
a golf product must be tested and reviewed by our staff
of golf testers and be judged to be of superior quality,
value and performance.
GolfTest
USA believes that having a golf product tested and rated
by real golfers in an independent and unbiased format
will help golf consumers determine which golf products

a golf product that has been awarded the GolfTest USA
Seal Of Excellence can feel confident that it will be
a quality product.
