REVIEW:
World
Woods Golf Club is located about 30 minutes north of Tampa
in one of the less populated areas of West Florida. If you
didn't know it was there you would stand a good chance of
missing it. There are two 18-hole courses to chose from,
Pine Barrens and Rolling Oaks. We had the opportunity to
play Pine Barrens in August of 2002. Florida can be brutally
hot and humid that time of year but we had the good fortune
to play on a day where the temperature stayed below 90.
The Head Golf Pro, Scott Wyckoff, made the arrangements
for us to play and he was very cordial and accommodating.
The course architect was Tom Fazio and he did any outstanding
job of carving Pine Barrens out of the lush Florida woodlands.
Pine Barrens has been rated one of the top public courses
in the country by many golf publications and organizations
and it is certainly deserving of all the accolades it has
received. Being situated away from a major population area
is a big plus as it allows World Woods unlimited space for
their exceptional practice facilities. It was really cool
to be able to play a course that is surrounded by the serene
forest and away from condos and the noise of traffic. The
lay out of the course offered a lot of challenges but was
fair and rewarded well struck shots. We had a great day
at World Woods thanks to all the staff that did their best
to insure that we enjoyed our round of golf from start to
finish. We hope to be able to get back to Tampa in the future
and play Rolling Oaks. GolfTest USA would recommend to all
golfers coming to the Tampa area to make time to play both
courses at World Woods Golf Club.
RATING:
GolfTest USA recommends World Woods Golf Club as an "ELITE"
golf course in the Tampa Metro area.
