Golf Cart Enclosure Review/April, 2002
When
the staff of GolfTest USA was at the PGA show in Orlando
we ran across a very interesting product. We spoke to the
people at the booth of Mobile Equipment Enclosures Limited
and asked a lot of questions about their golf cart enclosure.
We have seen many types of cart enclosures over the years
but this one was noticeably different. Most cart enclosures
are made of canvas or cloth material with clear plastic
panels for visibility. This one has a ridged aluminum frame
with sliding doors. The cart enclosures we have used in
the past had "roll-up door flaps" or used zippers to close
the doors. While they provided protection from the elements
they were not convenient or easy to open and close.
After
the show we contacted MEE and asked them to provide us with
a unit that we would install on our GolfTest USA Club Car
and use during the cool months in Sedona, Arizona. They
agreed and sent us one all the way from Lisburn, Northern
Ireland. We got up early one cool morning and decided to
install the enclosure on our cart. We followed the instructions
carefully and had only minor difficulties installing the
unit. We sent a couple of emails to MEE to get clarification
on some of the installation instructions. We received prompt
feedback on our questions and were given the answers and
information we needed to easily complete the installation.
We were very impressed with way the unit fit together as
the installation proceeded. The unit was made specifically
for our model of Club Car and we could see that they had
taken great care in designing it to be sure that it to fit
properly. Once we had finished we were amazed at how easily
the doors opened and closed. They slid smoothly and locked
into place with a tight seal when closed. There is a knob
on the door that lifts up to open or close and then securely
locks the door in place.
The
doors open wide so that even a very large person can get
in and out easily without any restriction. The design of
the enclosure allows for excellent visibility all around
the cart. The unit is attached to the cart in a very solid
manner. It becomes an integral part of the cart once installed.
There are two soft rubber sections that attach from the
top of the doorframe to the cart roof so that rain will
not come in. The rubber section had a sticky adhesive that
has not stayed secure to the roof. We had to add some additional
glue to it a month later to make it stick more securely
to the roof.
There
is an optional bag cover that is very functional for protecting
your clubs when it is raining.
We had
many golfers use the cart for a round of golf and they all
had praise for how easy the doors opened, the protection
from the elements it provides and how solid it was. Golf
courses would be wise to give serious consideration to installing
MEE cart enclosures on some of their golf cart fleet. Having
this enclosure installed on a cart would extend the golfing
season by several months in many areas throughout the country.
Adding a portable heater would make for an enjoyable round
of golf even in cold, windy or inclement weather. For the
summer months the rear panel can be quickly removed and
the doors left open. When it rains you have immediate protection
by simply closing the doors. While this cart enclosure is
not inexpensive we know of an old saying that applies perfectly
to this product. "You are never sorry when you buy the best".
And we believe this is the best golf cart enclosure
we have seen. We give the MEE Golf Cart Enclosure without
hesitation a DOUBLE EAGLE rating.
